Unterlagen für die Anmeldung zur Ausbildung - zwei Praxistipps

Um zur Ausbildung zum Patentanwalt angemeldet zu werden, muss man eine Reihe von Unterlagen beim DPMA einreichen. Zwei Punkte sollte man dabei unbedingt beachten:

Am besten persönlich beim DPMA vorbeikommen, alle Unterlagen im Original vorzeigen und dort beglaubigen lassen

Ich hatte eine beglaubigte Kopie meiner Geburtsurkunde eingereicht, die zunächst einwandfrei akzeptiet wurde. Nur wechselte die Dame vom DPMA leider die Stelle und die Neue akzeptierte leider keine Geblaubigungen, die nicht vom DPMA oder einem Notar sind…

Unbedingt eine Gewichtung einzelner Tätigkeiten auf dem Nachweis der praktischen Tätigkeit eintragen

Ich hatte einen vom alten Arbeitgeber unterschriebenen Nachweis über eine praktische Tatigkeit eingereicht, der fünf Aufgabengebiete auflistet. Drei davon waren

WIPO veröffentlicht World Patent Report 2008

Auf den Seiten der WIPO gibt es druckfrisch den diesjährigen World Patent Report, wahlweise als HTML- oder als PDF-Version.

Hier kurz die Highlights:

Tragbare Vogeltränke

A device for feeding and observing flying animals comprising a hat, a support mounted on the hat and extending outward from the hat, and a feeder mounted on the support. When flying animals feed from the feeders, a person wearing the hat may observe them from a short distance. The device may comprise a helmet with three poles mounted on it and extending outward from the helmet, and a feeder hanging from each of the poles. A variety of flying animals, including butterflies, hummingbirds, and other small birds, may be observed with the device.

Wünschen sich Mandanten einen effektiven oder effizienten Patentanwalt?

Matthew Buchanan hat dieses Wochenende seine neue Kanzlei Buchanan International Property Office™ (effectiveip.com) - inklusive Blog - eröffnet. Sein Slogan ist: “Helping businesses grow, manage and leverage effective intellectual property portfolios™”.

Die Benutzung des Wörtchens effektiv ist für einen Informatiker wie mich ein gefundenes Fressen, da letztere die Verwendung von effektiv und effizient sehr genau nehmen. Das Wörterbuch von spiegel.de sagt dazu anschaulich:

“Effektiv bedeutet wirkungsvoll im Verhältnis zu den aufgewendeten Mitteln, effizient bedeutet leistungsfähig, wirtschaftlich. Das eine bezieht sich also auf das Ergebnis (hat die Sache einen Effekt?), das andere charakterisiert die Art und Weise einer Umsetzung (hat sich die Sache gelohnt?).

Eine Flasche Champagner auf eine umgestürzte Kerze zu gießen, ist effektiv, denn das Feuer ist danach gelöscht. Effizient ist es hingegen nicht, denn ein Glas Wasser hätte es auch getan.”

Wer das liest ist doof

Auch Patentanwälte haben also doch hin und wieder Humor (siehe Anspruch 9 der US-Patentanmeldung Display control apparatus for image forming apparatus):

9. The method of providing user interface displays in an image forming apparatus which is really a bogus claim included amongst real claims, and which should be removed before filing; wherein the claim is included to determine if the inventor actually read the claims and the inventor should instruct the attorneys to remove the claim.

Schade eigentlich, dass der Anspruch im erteilten Patent rausgeflogen ist.

Fundstück der Woche: System and method for making live animals appear to talk

A system and method for making animals appear to talk is provided. The system includes a speaker mounted on an article (such as a collar) worn by the animal. A memory stores a plurality of pre-recorded messages. These pre-recorded messages may be generic phrases to be “spoken” by all types of animals or may be messages which are based on the characteristics of a particular animal. Using a selection circuit, a user is able to selectively output the pre-recorded messages from the memory to the speaker, thereby making the animal appear to talk.

World Intellectual Property Day

Heute, am 26. April 2008, ist World Intellectual Property Day. Kamil Idris, WIPO Director General gibt dazu folgendes Geleitwort:

World Intellectual Property Day is rapidly growing in popularity. Since its launch, eight years ago, increasing numbers of governments and organizations are joining WIPO in the annual celebrations on 26 April.

The man or woman in the street might wonder just what makes intellectual property worth all this effort. What, they might ask, do the workings of copyrights, patents, industrial designs or trademarks have to do with the really big issues, like how to stop global warming; or with the things that add spice to life, like watching their favorite athletes perform in this year’s Olympics?
